O Falcon 1, foi um veículo de lançamento descartável, desenvolvido pela SpaceX durante o período de 2006-2009.[1] Desenvolvido com o intuito de minimizar o custo por lançamento para satélites em órbita terrestre baixa, aumentar a confiabilidade, otimizar o ambiente de voo e minimizar o intervalo entre lançamentos.[2] Ele também foi usado para testar componentes e conceitos de desenhos estruturais que viriam a ser usados no Falcon 9.

SpaceX is not the first private company to try to break through the commercial space launch market. The company, however, appears to be the real thing. Privately funded, it had a vehicle before it got money from NASA, and while NASA’s space station resupply funds are a tremendous boost, SpaceX would have existed without it.
